Troops Foil Planned Terrorist Attack in Sokoto, Recover Arms, Military Camouflage

Troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted a planned terrorist attack in Sokoto State, recovering a machine gun, ammunition, motorcycles and military uniforms during a successful ambush operation.

According to security sources, the operation was conducted following credible intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists along the Kwanar Jollof axis of Jangeru Village in Shinkafi Local Government Area. The terrorists were reportedly en route to carry out attacks in parts of the state.

Acting on the intelligence, troops strategically deployed along the suspected route and laid an ambush for the advancing terrorists. Upon making contact, the soldiers engaged the group with sustained firepower, leading to a fierce gun battle.

The terrorists, overwhelmed by the troops’ superior tactical positioning and firepower, were forced to abandon their mission and flee into surrounding forests.

Military sources disclosed that several items were recovered from the scene, including a PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, multiple motorcycles, chains suspected to have been used in restraining kidnapped victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.

Security officials expressed concern over the recovery of the military uniforms, noting that terrorist groups increasingly employ impersonation tactics to evade detection and infiltrate targeted communities.

Further reports indicate that some of the fleeing terrorists were intercepted by hybrid security forces deployed along an identified escape route. The suspects reportedly ran into a secondary ambush, resulting in additional casualties among the criminal elements.

The operation forms part of ongoing offensive campaigns by Operation FANSAN YAMMA across Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and other North-West states aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting planned attacks and restoring security in affected communities.

Security analysts have described the development as a reflection of the growing impact of intelligence-led military operations and enhanced collaboration between conventional troops and hybrid security forces in restricting the movement and activities of terrorist groups across the region.

The latest success comes amid intensified military offensives targeting terrorist hideouts, logistics networks and transit corridors used by armed groups involved in kidnappings, cattle rustling and attacks on rural communities in the North-West.
