Two Killed in Attack on Illegal Mining Site in Plateau, Suspect Arrested
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have recovered the bodies of two persons and rescued another victim following an attack at an illegal mining site in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on May 11 at Kedawa village, where illegal mining activities were reportedly taking place.
According to the sources, troops of Sector 4, Sub-Sector 41 Gashish, were swiftly deployed to the area after receiving reports of an attack on miners operating at the site.
On arrival, the troops discovered the corpses of two victims identified as Mr Napan Danjuma and Mr Leba, while the attackers had fled the scene before the arrival of security personnel.

The troops also rescued one victim, identified as Mr Anthony Daniel, during the operation.
Security sources further disclosed that troops arrested a 42-year-old suspect, Mr Daniel Nathaniel, who allegedly facilitated the activities of the illegal miners by inviting them to operate at the closed mining location.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Mobile Police Force in NTV for further investigation and necessary action.
Military authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing assailants and curb criminal activities linked to illegal mining operations in the state.
The authorities added that security operations around illegal mining sites in Plateau State would be sustained to prevent further violence and restore order in affected communities.
