Troops Kill Senior Lieutenant to Notorious Bandit Leader Kachalla Muhammadu in Katsina
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have reportedly killed Biliya, a senior lieutenant to notorious bandit commander Kachalla Muhammadu, during a counter-banditry operation in the Matazu axis of Katsina State.
The development was disclosed through intelligence monitored by security sources following an encounter involving the bandits and troops on August 14, 2026.
According to the intelligence, confirmation of Biliya’s death emerged at about 11:34 p.m. during a conversation between two suspected associates of the bandit group identified as Mamiyo and Juli Asso Maha.
During the conversation, Juli reportedly sought information from Mamiyo about Biliya, whose whereabouts had apparently become a source of concern within the group.
Mamiyo, who was said to have recently returned from the location of Kachalla Muhammadu, reportedly confirmed that Biliya and members of his gang had embarked on an operation towards the northern part of their area of operation in the Matazu axis.
The gang reportedly entered an undisclosed community during the operation and later left Biliya inside a shop.

The situation changed when security forces reportedly launched an ambush against the group. Biliya was said to have been killed during the encounter, while the other members of the gang fled the area.
Mamiyo subsequently informed his associates that Biliya’s death had been confirmed after members of the group returned to the location of their commander.
The disclosure reportedly triggered anger and frustration among the bandits, with Juli expressing outrage over the killing of the senior lieutenant.
Biliya was reportedly regarded within the group as one of the key lieutenants operating under Kachalla Muhammadu, a prominent bandit commander active in parts of Katsina State.
His reported death could further disrupt the command and operational structure of Muhammadu’s group, particularly if Biliya played a significant role in coordinating armed operations and movements across the area.
The intelligence also provides an indication of the continued activities and movement patterns of the bandits, including attempts to conduct operations around communities in the Matazu axis.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have continued to intensify counter-banditry operations across Katsina and neighbouring states, targeting bandit commanders, fighters, hideouts and logistics networks.
However, military authorities had yet to officially confirm the reported killing of Biliya as of the time of filing this report.
