A renewed cult clash which began on Friday night in Sagamu has left one person dead.

The victim was said to have been shot dead by some young men on a motorcycle around Ewusi Road, Makun, Sagamu.

In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun is already in Sagamu for on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

The statement partly read, “Ogun State Police Command has received a report of a suspected murder in Sagamu. The report stated that a group of unidentified gunmen on motorcycles shot and killed a young man whose identity is currently unknown. Upon receiving the information, the DPO immediately proceeded towards the location of the gunshots.

“Upon arrival, they discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood. The examination of the body revealed bullet wounds on the neck, stomach, and hand. Additionally, three expended cartridges were found at the scene.

“The body of the deceased has been transported to a nearby morgue for further examination. No identification documents were found on the deceased, except for two large cowries.

“The Ogun State Commissioner of Police is aware of the incident and has personally arrived in Sagamu to oversee an open investigation into this tragic killing. The police are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case and to allay fears.”

The latest clash is coming barely two months after cult clashes had claimed no fewer than eight lives in the same area of the state.

Meanwhile, a yet-to-be-identified man has been reportedly killed by a hit-and-run driver in the Tekobo Junction area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Head of Public Relations and Information of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Segun Orisajo, on Saturday.

He said, “The attention of the general public is hereby drawn to a case of a yet-to-be-identified man who was knocked down by a hit-and-run-driver at Tekobo Junction, opposite Ogun State International Montessori School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, on Friday.

“The victim was rushed to the Accident and Emergency unit of the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta by some policemen from Kemta, but shortly after, he was certified dead by medical personnel.

“The identity of the man in question was not known as there was nothing on him that could have assisted in identifying him or his relatives.”
