Women Affairs Minister Urges Females to Join Police Force

The Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye has called on interested Nigerian girls with First School Leaving Certificates to take advantage of the 35% Affirmative Action of the National Gender Policy and get enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force.

The Minister made the call in her office in Abuja shortly after concluding talks with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun on partnership between the Ministry and his office on the 35% Affirmative action in the on-going nationwide recruitment of the Nigeria Police for First School Leaving Certificate holders

She stated that the Nigeria Police Force and Federal Ministry of Women Affairs stand to achieve a lot, especially if they partner on the 35 percent affirmative action

Kennedy-Ohanenye therefore called on Nigerian females with School Certificates to take advantage of the present initiative of government by getting themselves enlisted into the NPF, particularly with the window that allows them to go for in-service training and be elevated on completion.

She stated, *please my girls, the Nigeria Police is recruiting First School Leaving Certificate holders, if you are interested, I urge you to apply as the Ministry of Women Affairs will also encourage you to go back to school while on the job through scholarships*

The move she said, is in line with the present administration’s policy thrust on women empowerment through job creation and poverty alleviation among others

Kennedy-Ohanenye who thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for providing the platform for female applicants to be given a level playing ground as their male counterparts in the on-going recruitment exercise, noted however that the present recruitment structure in the country has not been favourable to the Nigerian women.

She therefore called on the Military and Para Military bodies as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to take a cue from the NPF and give room for the realisation of the 35% Affirmative action in all their employment forthwith so as to enable the Nigerian woman, contribute her quota to the growth and development of the nation.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Police portal for the recruitment process was opened last month for First School leaving Certificate holders
