MacArthur Pledges More Support for Projects Tackling Anti-Corruption

Endemic corruption, which is hindering Nigeria’s socio-economic, can be tackled, the MacArthur Foundation, said on Tuesday.

Its Country Director, Mr. Kole Shettima, stated this in Abuja. He was speaking at a ‘Stakeholders Inception Meeting’ (SIM) on the Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting, NAPPR.

At the event organized by the Center for Media, Policy and Accountability, CMPA, Shettima, revealed how MacArthur Foundation, has been providing support for anti-corruption projects in the country, since 2015.

“This is to tackle the rampant issue which has caused significant harm to Nigeria’s economy and citizens,” he said.

He observed that the detrimental effects of corruption on the Nigerian society demands concerted efforts to combat it.

According to him, corruption has drained the country’s resources, stifled her economic growth, and also rendered many Nigerians poor.

“We are dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, and ethical governance,” said Shettima.

In his remark, the Executive Director, of CMPA/NAPPR, Dr. Suleiman A. Suleiman, said their project aims to bridge the gap between Anti-Corrution Agencies, ACAs, and other stakeholders through research, advocacy, training, and capacity building.

Suleiman added that their NAPPR project is to support and strengthen anti-corruption institutions to come up with effective legal frameworks to combat corrupt practices.
