Fleeing inmate stabs pregnant woman to death
An escapee from a correctional centre in Imo State, Justice Anukam, has allegedly stabbed an expectant mother to death.
The incident happened yesterday at about 1.30pm at Umuejechi Nekede community in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The victim was unidentified at press time.
An eyewitness said the suspect had been terrorising the community since his escape, in April 2021, from jail in Owerri.

“The victim was a pregnant woman on her way to church. The suspect accosted her and demanded money from the woman and when she refused, he brought out a knife and stabbed her on the stomach and the pregnant woman bled to death,” the eyewitness said.
The suspect reportedly fled after stabbing the woman but was apprehended by a mob.
Police intervention saved him from being lynched, it was said.
Police spokesman, CSP Michael Abattam said he was awaiting a report on the incident from the Nekede Divisional Headquarters.
