Group Advocates Policies to Promote Media Literacy, Kill Fake News
The Civil Society Group for Good Governance has stressed the need for government at all levels to come up with policies that can reduce fake news, and misinformation as well as promote media literacy in the country.
President of the Group, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, made the call in Abuja at a roundtable on fake news their organisation convened.
Comrade Dominic explained that as the 2023 general election draws nearer it has become necessary for their group to lead the fight against combating politics of bitterness during electioneering, through the use of social media.

One of the keynote speakers at the event, Mr. Folabi Olajuwon, in a paper presentation titled, “Community-Based Approach to Handling the Spread of Fake News,” described every information as fake until it is verified.
He urged citizens to join the fray, and partake in the battle to eliminate fake news.
Also, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Educational Research Development Council, Prof. Ismail Junaidu called for increased awareness on the danger of corruption, among young Nigerians.
High point of the event was the unveiling of ‘CSO News Watch’, as well as presentation of a ‘Meritorious Award’ to some individuals who distinguished themselves in service to the nation.
