Publisher Tasks Journalists on Safeguarding National Interest via Media Reportage
Nigerian journalists have been advised to always consider pursuing national interest in the course of discharging their duties of gathering and disseminating news stories.
The call was made yesterday by Mallam Yushau Shuaib, Editor-in-Chief of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential Magazine.
Speaking at the ’10th Anniversary Celebration of DAILY POST,’ an online newspaper in Abuja, Shuaib, lamented that some quacks operating in the Nigerian media industry offer their platforms for mischief makers to disseminate propaganda and threatening the corporate existence of the country.
As the guest speaker at the event, the PRNigeria Editor-in-Chief, delivered a paper, titled: “2023 and the Role of the New Media”.

Shuaib also said the media, as the fourth estate of the realm, has a critical role to play in holding government responsible and accountable to their action, for the people.
He said: “The media can discharge this function by influencing government’s decisions, embarking on advocacy campaigns, as well as informing, educating, entertaining and mobilizing the public to good courses.”
In his remarks, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja Chapter, congratulated DAILY POST for the giant strides and milestones it has achieved over the decade, in spite of the hurdles encountered during the course of the journey.
The publisher of DAILY POST, James Bamisaye, who was honored as the “Boss of the Decade” at the event, commended the staff for their dedication, hardworking and relentless efforts toward ensuring the success of the organization.
