NCC, NAF, NCS Emerge International PR Award Finalists

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are among finalists of Golden World Award in Public Relations for the Year 2020.

The announcement was made through email messages to the finalists by Janice Hills, the Member Services Manager of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) with its headquarters in London.

The three finalists from Nigeria had previously won different categories of the African PR Awards 2020 which was scheduled to hold during the Conference of African Public Relations Association (APRA) in Tanzania in May 2020 but was suspended due to the COVID-19.

The PR campaigns of the Nigeria’s organisations were undertaken in partnership with a multi-award-winning PR agency, Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), the Publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential.

The annual IPRA Golden World Awards (GWA) initiative, established in 1990, recognises excellence in Public Relations worldwide in a variety of categories.

The Nigerian Airforce was selected as Finalist on Crisis Management Category for its campaign on ‘Women of War’ to prove that “what a man can do a woman can do better in the military.” The campaign was birthed to proffer answers to the roles of women in the NAF which had been underrated under certain cultural and moral ideologies.

The Nigerian Customs Service emerged finalist on Public Affairs Category for its timely and effective response to the concern of stakeholders, especially Rice Processors Association of Nigeria (RIPAN) over incessant smuggling of foreign rice. The NCS aggressive public awareness campaign and enforcements ensure a massive reduction in smuggling of contrabands into the country.

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) was nominated for New Product Category for operationalising the Emergency Communication Centre as a one-stop-shop for receiving distress calls from the public and dispatching same to appropriate Response Agencies (“First Responders”), who acted timely in resolving thousands of distress calls.

Speaking on the shortlisted finalists, the Chief Executive Officer of Image Merchants Promotion Limited commended the nominees for making Nigeria and West-Africa proud in the world most diverse, fierce and creative PR Competition.
