DSS Arrests NGO Leader for Blackmail and Extortion

On Thursday in Abuja, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Kennedy Tabukoi, the leader of an unregistered NGO called the Niger Delta Development Initiative (NDDI), for allegedly using blackmail and extortion tactics against government officials.

According to PRNigeria, Tabukoi leveraged his position to intimidate officials into giving him financial rewards and contracts, threatening to tarnish their reputations if they refused. He reportedly organized protests against these officials, including a demonstration at the National Assembly, accusing lawmakers of obstructing a petroleum sector probe.

A security source disclosed that Tabukoi’s activities had been under surveillance after multiple complaints were lodged. It was revealed that he falsely presented his organization as legitimate to extort his targets, admitting during questioning that his goal was to register the NGO and continue profiting from activism.

This incident highlights the importance of regulatory oversight in preventing fraudulent activities disguised as advocacy.
