Police Arrest

The Zamfara Police Commissioner, Mohammed Dalijan, has announced the arrest and detention of an Algerian arms trafficker who admitted to providing guns to bandits in the northwest states of Nigeria for eight years.

The suspect, aged 58, was taken into custody at the Illela border post, where four AK-47 rifles were found.

The police commissioner disclosed that during three weeks of police raids, 16 AK-47 rifles, one double-barrel gun, and a locally manufactured pistol were seized from a weapons manufacturer located in Jos, Plateau State.

Dalijan also verified the arrests of several other individuals, including illicit gold miners, motorcycle suppliers, and bandits.

He reaffirmed the prohibition on illicit mining imposed by the federal and state governments, threatening harsh penalties for those who violate it.

“The suspected Algerian told the police he had been committing this crime for eight years.

“The command, acting on intelligence, traced and arrested an arms manufacturer in Jos and tracked and arrested a regional arms trafficker from Algeria.

“The police recovered live ammunition and N2.5 million cash, among others, from the suspects,” Dalijan stated.
