CSOs Urge FG to Drop ‘Bogus’ Defamation Lawsuit Against SERAP

The rights groups, including Accountability Lab, BudgIT, CISLAC, and YIAGA, criticized the government’s actions as an attempt to stifle dissent. This comes after SERAP’s Abuja office was invaded by Department of State Services (DSS) officers following its letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to investigate corruption allegations in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The CSOs condemned the defamation lawsuit and the broader pattern of intimidation targeting civil society in Nigeria. They also highlighted other incidents, such as the invasion of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters and violations during peaceful protests, urging the Tinubu administration to reverse these dangerous trends and uphold human rights.
