The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira, during a wedding in Kano. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, involved the spraying of naira notes at the wedding of Amina Babagana Zannah and Ibrahim Mohammad, a Nigerien national. The EFCC confirmed the event took place at the wedding dinner on October 24, 2024, not at the wedding of Senator Danjuma Goje’s daughter, as initially reported.
The commission has invited the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, and the guests who participated in the naira spraying to report to its headquarters in Abuja. EFCC Chairman Dele Oyewale emphasized that the agency remains committed to curbing currency abuse and will hold offenders accountable regardless of their status.
