Road Accidents in Kaduna Claim 484 Lives, Injure Over 2,300 in 2024 – FRSC Reports

Kaduna State has witnessed a troubling increase in road traffic fatalities in 2024, with 484 lives lost and 2,327 individuals injured in accidents between January and October, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The state’s Sector Commander, Kabiru Yusuf Nadabo, shared these statistics during the launch of the Ember Months road safety campaign. He compared the figures to 2023, when 467 people died and 2,877 were injured in road crashes. Despite the slight increase in fatalities, Nadabo noted a decrease in the number of vehicles involved in accidents — 514 vehicles in 2024 compared to 719 in the previous year, a development the FRSC sees as positive.

In total, 4,979 people were involved in accidents from January to October 2024, down from 6,057 in 2023. However, the rise in fatalities this year was attributed to several major crashes, including one on Saminaka Road that contributed significantly to the death toll.

Nadabo also outlined new strategies for improving road safety during the high-risk Ember Months, including town hall meetings, public education in motor parks, and heightened efforts to encourage safer driving habits. The FRSC is urging passengers to take an active role in road safety by encouraging drivers to adhere to speed limits and practice safe driving habits.

“We hope that by educating passengers about their rights and responsibilities, we can foster a safer road environment for everyone,” Nadabo explained, urging both drivers and passengers to prioritize safety during the final months of the year.
