Disturbed by the state of barracks and other deplorable infrastructure across Police units and commands, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) said it would restore the infrastructure.

Its Executive Secretary, Mohammad Sheidu, gave this assurance during an assessment tour of the Police College, Ikeja, yesterday.

Sheidu who visited the dormitories, hostels and kitchens at the college, also went to the Police Hospital at the Area F Command, Alakuko Police Station, among other facilities in Lagos metropolis.

Stating that the NPTF would carry out a second phase intervention at the college, the Cottage hospital in the college, and Alakuko Police division as part of its 2023 intervention, Sheidu identified key areas that were in need of attention, such as lighting, water supply, and leaking roofs in dormitories.

The team also visited the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, where five-day training on Intelligence-led policing and surveillance it organized for policemen was ongoing.

Emphasizing integrity and accountability, Sheidu stressed the need for transparency in the assessment process. He assured that a monitoring and evaluation team would oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring transparency.

Similarly, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Yalleman, commended the Commandant and his team for their “excellent work” in maintaining the facilities at the training school.

Yalleman emphasized that his committee’s mission was to ensure transparency and accountability in the appropriation of funds for agencies.

Police College Commandant, CP Fasuba Akinyele, said pregnant women and mentally unwell persons who successfully navigated the recruitment process for new entrants into the police were dismissed from the training to ensure that only individuals with mental stability were enlisted into the Police Force”.He disclosed that 420 recruits classified under General Duties from Lagos and Ogun states had been undergoing training at the college for the months, while an additional 610 others described as specialists were from the South East.
