New Minister Assures Women, Vulnerable Citizens of Massive Empowerment, Protection

 Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the newly appointed Minister of Women Affairs, pledged a transformative approach to advance the rights and empowerment of Nigerian women, children, and other vulnerable groups as she assumed office in Abuja.

During her address at the official handover ceremony, Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized her commitment to closing the gender gap and enhancing protections for women through economic empowerment and policy enforcement. Key areas of focus for her tenure will include promoting skills development, entrepreneurial support, and political participation to elevate women’s roles in society. The Minister highlighted that education, vocational training, and leadership development will be essential tools in fostering women’s advancement across various sectors.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim also underscored the importance of upholding policies that protect women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations. Addressing gender-based violence, she stressed the need for accessible and fair justice, along with expanded social services and the creation of safe spaces for at-risk groups.

 

On child protection, the Minister noted that her administration would prioritize strengthening protocols to prevent abuse, trafficking, and exploitation, aiming to build a safer environment for all children in Nigeria.

 

“This is a new era for Nigerian women,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim declared, urging stakeholders to collaborate in breaking down barriers and ensuring that every woman’s voice is heard and rights safeguarded. She expressed her gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his trust, pledging to build upon her predecessors’ accomplishments in uplifting Nigerian women and vulnerable citizens in alignment with the National Gender Policy and the 2021-2026 guidelines.

 

Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, welcomed the new Minister and assured her of the support and loyalty of the Ministry’s staff, committing to creating an environment conducive to achieving the Ministry’s objectives.

 

The ceremony concluded with a renewed dedication from the Ministry to drive inclusive growth and gender equality, signaling a new chapter for women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
