NBC Issues Apology After EFCC’s Controversial Raid on Enugu Radio Station
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued an apology following the controversial involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the raid of Urban Radio 94.5 FM in Enugu. The incident, which occurred on October 14, saw EFCC operatives arrest a radio presenter, Favour Ekoh, during a live broadcast.
NBC spokesperson Susan Obi offered the commission’s apology in a statement released on Monday, acknowledging the concerns raised by the broadcast community, residents of Enugu, and the general public.

In the aftermath of the raid, Urban Radio’s management claimed that Ekoh was apprehended mid-programme, an assertion that drew widespread attention. However, the EFCC responded on Tuesday through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who clarified that Ekoh’s arrest was not during a live broadcast. According to Oyewale, the arrest was part of an investigation into Ekoh’s alleged involvement in a N700 million Ponzi scheme that defrauded around 50 victims.
Despite the EFCC’s explanation, Urban Radio maintained in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the operatives had indeed interrupted their live show to make the arrest.
The incident has sparked discussions about the balance between law enforcement actions and the rights of media organizations.
