ICPC Arraigns Former Benue College Registrar for N4.4 Million Admission Scam
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Awuawe Clement, the former Registrar of the Benue State School of Health Technology in Agasha, for alleged involvement in admission racketeering. Clement is accused of diverting over N4.4 million from unsuspecting students seeking admission to the institution.
According to ICPC’s spokesperson, Demola Bakare, the charges also include making false statements to ICPC officers during the investigation, an offense under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000. Clement has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The allegations state that between 2018 and 2019, Clement exploited his position as Registrar to continue selling admission forms after the official sales period had ended, pocketing the money for personal gain. The total amount collected from the illicit transactions is said to be N4,466,500.
Following the arraignment, Clement’s legal team, led by Mr. Kelvin Iorzenda, filed for bail, which was not opposed by the prosecution. Justice Egbe Raphael granted bail in the sum of two million naira (N2,000,000) with one surety of similar value. The surety must be a public or civil servant and provide necessary documents.
The case has been adjourned to December 12, 2024, for further hearing.
