Agbakoba Declares EFCC an Unlawful Organization
Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), a renowned legal expert, has described the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as an “unlawful organization” that was “unconstitutionally established.”

In an October 14 letter addressed to the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Agbakoba urged the National Assembly to review constitutional reforms related to law enforcement agencies. He argued that the EFCC’s establishment exceeds the National Assembly’s constitutional powers.
Agbakoba, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, praised states challenging the EFCC’s constitutionality, expressing hope that this would resolve ongoing questions about its legal status. He also called for a public hearing to discuss reforms that would strengthen Nigeria’s legal framework for anti-corruption efforts.
