Kanunta Urges DSS, Nigerian Army to Act Against “Terrorist” Tanker Drivers Following Deadly Explosion
Kanunta, the younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has sharply condemned the deadly tanker explosion in Jigawa State, labeling it an “act of terrorism.” The incident, which took place late Tuesday night, resulted in the tragic loss of over 90 lives when a petrol tanker lost control and exploded in Majiya Town, near Khadija University.
The tanker, which was traveling from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, veered off course and detonated around 11:30 PM, causing widespread destruction. Local police spokesperson Mr. Shi’isu Adam confirmed that the explosion tragically engulfed numerous bystanders, sending shockwaves through the community.

In the wake of the disaster, Kanunta took to social media, accusing the security agencies of failing to prevent what he called “terrorist tanker drivers.” He specifically called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army to take more decisive action. “Tanker fire is an act of terrorism,” Kanunta stated, urging the DSS and Army to “learn from IPOB” in dealing with these so-called terrorists. He further insisted that these drivers, whom he described as being on “suicidal missions,” should be banned from operating in the Southwest during the day to reduce casualties.
The comments come amid growing concerns over the safety of tanker transport routes, especially in light of several recent incidents. Kanunta’s remarks have sparked a larger conversation about security in the country, with many questioning whether enough is being done to prevent such tragedies.
As the investigation into the tanker explosion continues, the calls for stronger intervention by the DSS and the Army remain louder than ever.
