EFCC Raids Urban Radio Enugu, Arrests Presenter on Live Air
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Urban Radio 94.5FM in Enugu on Monday evening, arresting a presenter during the live broadcast of the station’s ‘Prime Time’ programme. The station, in a statement on Tuesday, apologized to its listeners for the disruption caused by the raid.
According to Urban Radio, the raid occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Monday when the programme was underway. The operatives, identified as EFCC agents, forcibly removed the presenter from the studio and seized communication equipment without providing any explanation for their actions. The station expressed regret over the abrupt halt of its live programming and assured listeners that they would be kept informed about the situation as it developed.
“The Board and Management of Urban Radio 94.5FM, Enugu regrets the abrupt halting and disruption of our programme on Monday evening,” the statement read. “Armed men identifying as the EFCC had barged into the studio and interrupted the live program ‘Prime-Time,’ forcefully abducted our presenters and took away our communication equipment for reasons they refused to disclose.”

However, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, later clarified that the raid was part of an investigation into Favour Ekoh, one of the station’s presenters, who is alleged to have been involved in a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 103 Nigerians. Oyewale confirmed that only Ekoh was arrested and denied that any communication equipment was taken.
Urban Radio has assured its audience that it is following up on the matter and hopes for a swift resolution.
