Nigeria Celebrates Youth Excellence at Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award Ceremony
In a significant show of support for youth empowerment, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja, held the Silver Award Presentation Ceremony of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award on Friday. The event recognized the exceptional achievements of young Nigerians aged 14 to 24 who have demonstrated leadership, social responsibility, and essential life skills.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, presided over the ceremony and praised the awardees for their remarkable accomplishments. He acknowledged the Silver Award as a major milestone in their personal development, urging them to pursue the prestigious Gold Award. “You are the future leaders of this country, and we count on you to keep pushing yourselves and reaching for excellence,” he said.

Mr. Edun also highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to reducing poverty and empowering Nigeria’s youth. He emphasized that investing in the younger generation is crucial for the nation’s long-term progress and prosperity.
Since its introduction in Nigeria, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award has impacted over 60,000 young people, fostering leadership, social responsibility, and life skills. With the guidance of more than 2,000 mentors and volunteers, the program continues to equip Nigerian youth to face challenges and thrive in an increasingly complex world.
Dignitaries present at the event included British Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Gill Lever, Special Adviser to the Minister of Youth for State Development Mr. Tunde Yakub Prudent, Trustee of The International Award for Young People Nigeria Mr. Abdulrahman Sambo, and Special Adviser to the Minister of Finance Mrs. Sanyade Okoli.
The Silver Award Presentation Ceremony is seen as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to nurturing its youth, ensuring that the country’s future remains in capable hands.
