Over 90% of Corruption Cases Tied to Procurement Processes, EFCC Chairman Reveals
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, disclosed on Thursday that more than 90% of public corruption cases currently under investigation by the commission are linked to contract awards and procurement activities. This revelation came during a courtesy visit by the management team of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), led by its Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja.

Olukoyede emphasized the need for TETFund to strengthen its project monitoring systems, noting that many corruption cases stem from poor oversight of contracts financed by the fund in universities and polytechnics. “We are willing to collaborate much more with you and take the relationship to a greater height,” he said, urging TETFund to ensure contractors do not exploit funds meant for educational development.
In his remarks, Echono assured the EFCC of TETFund’s commitment to combating financial misconduct in tertiary institutions and pledged to work closely with the commission to ensure accountability. He proposed collaboration between EFCC experts and TETFund’s procurement officers to prevent infractions.
