In fulfilment of its promise to apprehend the suspects who, on Tuesday, burnt down the National Open University of Nigeria study centre and the residence of Senator Frank Ibezim in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, the Nigeria Police has announced the apprehension of eight persons in connection with the incidents.

The Imo State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, in a statement on Wednesday, said, “I am pleased to announce that over eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the arson incidents in Ehime Mbano. Investigations are ongoing. More details will be communicated in due course.”

The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had stressed that no individual involved in the attacks would escape the full legal consequences, as the police were committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice was served.

Danjuma urged the public to refrain from spreading fake news or making inciting statements that could destabilise the peace in the state warning that anyone found guilty of spreading false information would face strict consequences.

Efforts by our correspondent to get further details from the PPRO on the development didn’t come as of the time of filing the report.
