EFCC Vows to Reopen Corruption Case Against Ex-Governor Matawalle
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to revisiting corruption allegations against former Zamfara State Governor and current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. This was disclosed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale while addressing protesters at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The protesters, under the APC Akida Forum, demanded the probe of Matawalle over the alleged diversion of N70 billion in public funds during his tenure as governor. The EFCC previously announced its investigation into Matawalle in May 2023, but the case had since lost momentum.
The group urged the EFCC to demonstrate the same resolve shown in other high-profile corruption cases and hold Matawalle accountable for any financial misconduct.
