EFCC Explains Dropped Charges Against Bobrisky Amid Health Concerns

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clarified on Monday why it dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky, during a session with the House of Representatives Committee. Bilikisu Buhari, representing the EFCC, stated that the decision was based on Bobrisky’s confessional statement regarding naira abuse in court, emphasizing that there was no financial inducement involved in the commission’s actions.

The Committee’s Chairman, Ginger Onwusibe, indicated that the individual who recorded the controversial audio implicating Bobrisky should appear in future hearings as the session was adjourned indefinitely.

Social media influencer Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), also appeared before the Committee, presenting evidence he claimed to have obtained from someone who borrowed money from Bobrisky. He expressed his intention to reveal more audio recordings at the appropriate time, stating, “Bobrisky claimed he had a godfather… I will present my evidence one at a time.”

Bobrisky’s lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie, informed the Committee that his client could not attend due to health issues, although he was questioned about providing medical documentation, which he did not have.

Additionally, Deputy Controller of the Maximum Correctional Center in Kirikiri, Lagos, testified that Bobrisky had been appropriately detained in their facility, debunking claims that he had been held elsewhere.
