EFCC, DSS Deepen Collaboration to Combat Corruption
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) have reaffirmed their commitment to working closely in the fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria. This collaboration was solidified during a courtesy visit by the DSS Base Command Liaison in Lagos, Paul Akugbo, to the EFCC’s Lagos office on Thursday.
In a statement issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Akugbo highlighted the critical importance of strengthening the relationship between the two agencies. He noted that both institutions must work hand-in-hand to curb corruption and other economic crimes that continue to affect the country’s development.
Akugbo described the visit as a proactive measure to reinforce the existing synergy between the DSS and the EFCC. He further emphasized that effective collaboration between security agencies is key to achieving their shared objectives.

“We cannot afford to work in isolation. Security is not a one-man business, and we must cooperate to succeed. Criminals are increasingly sophisticated, and we need to respond by strengthening our partnerships,” Akugbo stated.
Michael Wetkas, the Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, expressed his appreciation for the DSS’s ongoing support, noting that the partnership between the two agencies has yielded positive results in the past. Wetkas acknowledged the crucial role the DSS plays in intercepting individuals on the EFCC’s watchlist and assisting with other high-priority operations.
“Lagos is a challenging environment for law enforcement, but with your continued cooperation, we have made significant strides. This visit signifies your commitment to our joint success,” Wetkas said.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to enhancing intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and overall effectiveness in addressing corruption and economic crimes.
