DSS Blocks Kanu’s Legal Team After Judge Withdraws From Case

Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel for the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, expressed concern on Friday over the Department of State Services (DSS) blocking his legal team’s visit to Kanu.

In a statement shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ejimakor revealed that the DSS prevented Kanu’s lawyers from meeting with him, violating existing court orders and constitutional rights. He stated, “It appears that the DSS has canceled all future visitations to Kanu as retaliation for his role in causing Justice Binta Nyako to withdraw from his case.”

Ejimakor further lamented that Kanu is now in complete solitary confinement, isolated from legal counsel, and unsure when or if another meeting with Kanu will be allowed.

Nnamdi Kanu, who is facing terrorism-related charges, recently informed Justice Nyako that he no longer had confidence in her handling of his case. In response, Justice Nyako excused herself and referred the case to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment.
