Nnamdi Kanu: “Another Year in Detention Won’t Kill Me”

The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that spending another year in detention will not kill him. He made this remark on Tuesday during his trial’s resumption at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu expressed frustration over the court’s refusal to fully implement the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding his request for bail. He accused the court of selectively adhering to parts of the judgment while ignoring key sections of the Nigerian Constitution.

“I am not against any trial; after all, I am innocent. They have nothing against me. But there cannot be a trial when key sections of the Constitution and the Supreme Court judgment have been violated,” Kanu asserted.

Kanu has been in detention since June 2021 under the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), despite widespread calls for his release.
