Justice Nyako Steps Down from Nnamdi Kanu’s Case

Justice Binta Nyako has officially recused herself from presiding over the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The judge withdrew from the case after Kanu accused her of failing to comply with the Supreme Court’s orders and demanded her removal. Kanu voiced his discontent, stating that he no longer had confidence in the court.
Despite the prosecution’s appeal for the trial to continue, Justice Nyako remitted the case to the Chief Judge for reassignment. She had overseen Kanu’s trial since his initial arrest in 2015, granting him bail in 2017, before he fled the country during a military operation.
