EFFC Recovers €5,100 from Romance Scammer, Returns Funds to Spanish Ambassador
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered €5,100 from a notorious romance scammer and returned the funds to Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Juan Ignacio Sell.
The recovery was made possible through a collaborative effort between the EFCC and the Spanish Police, showcasing the commitment to tackling international financial crimes.

At the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Friday, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede handed over the funds to Ambassador Sell, bringing relief to Spanish victim Heinz Burchard Einhaus Uchtmann, who had been defrauded by the scammer.
Olukoyede emphasized the importance of global cooperation in fighting financial crimes, noting the borderless nature of internet scams. He vowed that Nigeria would remain a hostile environment for financial criminals.
The ambassador praised the partnership between the EFCC and Spanish law enforcement and expressed the willingness to strengthen collaboration, particularly in areas of training and information exchange.
