The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers in the Ughelli South Local Government Area. The suspects were apprehended at a hideout in Ewu town on Thursday, following a tip-off.
Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests in Warri on Tuesday. He explained that the suspects were caught by a police crack squad from the Ughelli Area Command, who acted on reliable intelligence.

During questioning, the suspects admitted to being involved in several kidnapping and armed robbery incidents in Ughelli and surrounding areas. Among their crimes, they confessed to the abduction of a 70-year-old woman on September 8, 2024, from whom they extorted ₦7.9 million in ransom before her release.
“On September 12, 2024, the crack squad raided a brothel that doubled as a criminal hideout in Ewu town and successfully arrested five suspects. The suspects confessed to multiple criminal activities, including the kidnapping of a 70-year-old woman,” Edafe stated.
Recovered from the suspects were a single-barrel gun, three locally-made cut-to-size guns, ₦450,000 in cash, two Point of Sale (PoS) machines, and several wraps of cannabis.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
