ICPC Nabs El-Rufai’s Ex-Finance Commissioner in Lagos
In a significant development in Nigeria’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has apprehended Shizzer Joy Nasara Bada, the former Commissioner of Finance and Accountant General under ex-Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s administration. Bada was detained on Sunday at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos while attempting to leave the country.
The arrest follows intensified scrutiny surrounding Bada and her former boss, el-Rufai, who is embroiled in allegations of massive financial mismanagement. Sources suggest that Bada’s arrest is part of a broader investigation into alleged financial misconduct during el-Rufai’s eight-year tenure as Governor of Kaduna State. Recent reports indicate that the Kaduna State House of Assembly has accused el-Rufai of embezzling ₦423 billion from state funds, further fueling the investigation.
ICPC officials had been monitoring Bada’s movements following intelligence reports indicating that she might be trying to evade questioning. Although specific charges against her have not yet been disclosed, insiders believe they relate to significant financial irregularities and the misappropriation of public funds.
