Matawalle Orders Immediate Probe into Detention of Navy Officer
This action comes in response to public outcry following an interview by Mrs. Hussaina Haruna, wife of the detained officer, who appealed for justice.The Honourable Minister, known for his firm stance on fairness and discipline within the military, expressed his commitment to ensuring justice in this matter.
He emphasized that no service member should endure unjust treatment, pledging to maintain the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
“Our armed forces are pillars of honour, discipline, and justice,” Dr. Matawalle stated.

“No officer who serves this great nation should be subjected to undue hardship or wrongful treatment. We will thoroughly investigate the case of Seaman Abbas Haruna and ensure that the truth comes to light. I guarantee the Nigerian public that this matter will be treated with the utmost seriousness, and justice will prevail.”
The Ministry of Defence has assured the public that the Nigerian Navy, alongside other relevant authorities, will collaborate in the investigation to determine the facts and uphold justice.
Dr. Matawalle stressed that every officer, regardless of rank, is entitled to fair treatment and due respect, adding that any breach of protocol will be addressed swiftly.Furthermore, the Minister reiterated that Seaman Haruna’s rights will be protected throughout the investigation process.
“We will not tolerate any form of harassment or mistreatment against any member of our armed forces,” he added.
Dr. Matawalle also called for calm and patience from the public as the investigation proceeds, assuring all stakeholders that the Ministry remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the swift delivery of justice.
