NSA Ribadu Demands N10 Billion from PDP Over Election Allegations

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA) of Nigeria, has fiercely responded to allegations by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, accusing him of tampering with the upcoming gubernatorial election. Through his legal representatives, Charles Musa & Co., Ribadu is demanding a retraction, a public apology, and a substantial compensation of N10 billion for the reputational damage caused by the accusations.

The PDP had claimed that Ribadu was involved in releasing $2 million to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Edo, allegedly to bribe security agencies and influence the election outcome. According to the party, this was based on intelligence reports raising concerns about the manipulation of the electoral process by federal actors.

Ribadu, widely regarded for his anti-corruption stance and leadership as the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), categorically denied the accusations. His legal team described the PDP’s claims as “malicious and libelous,” insisting that the publication not only damaged Ribadu’s personal integrity but also misrepresented the role of the NSA.

In a letter dated September 15, 2024, addressed to Edo PDP Chairman Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, Ribadu’s legal team has demanded a public retraction and apology in five national newspapers, as well as across major media platforms. Furthermore, the NSA is seeking N10 billion in damages, with a warning of impending legal action should the PDP fail to meet these demands within seven days.

This brewing legal confrontation comes at a critical time, as Edo State gears up for its gubernatorial election, potentially heightening the political atmosphere.
