CDS rejigs Zamfara Operation, Deploys more Equipment

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, has restructured the operations in Zamfara State to curb the activities of bandits.

Musa stated that the operations have now assumed a theatre command status, with General Officers Commanding serving as component commanders.

He explained that this development aims to ensure better collaboration and control between security agencies.
A statement on Friday by the Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, indicated that Musa made these remarks during a visit to the Zamfara State governor.

Gusau also noted that the Chief of Defence Staff revealed the new operational code name is now Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

He said, “The CDS took the opportunity to inform the governor of a change in the Defence Headquarters-led operations in the state. According to him, the operations have now assumed a theatre command status, with General Officers Commanding as component commanders.

“This, he said, is to enable proper synergy and control between state actors. He also mentioned that the operational code name is now Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Additionally, the CDS noted that the President has approved the deployment of additional military platforms to achieve better results.”

He added that the CDS pledged to collaborate with state-owned security establishments, stating, “We cannot be everywhere; we need proactive men and women to assist in achieving peace.”

Gusau further stated that the CDS promised to protect farmers in the state and vowed to bring the bandits operating in Zamfara to justice soon.

He said, “Regarding farmers’ access to freely cultivate without bandit interference, the AFN will provide security to ensure a bountiful harvest and ease the current hardship.

The CDS assured the governor of having a dedicated and committed team of security heads in Zamfara and pledged to bring all notorious bandits to justice soon.”

Musa also appealed to the people of Zamfara State not to act as informants to the bandits who might undermine military operations but rather to provide vital information to security agencies to help eliminate the bandits.

Gusau said the CDS urged the troops to develop a positive mindset towards winning the war.

He added, “The CDS has pledged to provide every necessary platform to execute the fight. He also promised to vigorously pursue their welfare, rewarding their bravery immediately.”
