EFCC Secures Conviction of 39 Internet Fraudsters, Arrests 56 Others in Sting Operation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully secured the conviction of 39 internet fraudsters in Ibadan, Oyo State. These convictions were handed down by Justices O.S. Adeyemi, Bayo Taiwo, and Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, following separate one-count charges related to impersonation, cheating, and possession of fraudulent documents. The EFCC, through its Ibadan Zonal Directorate, prosecuted the cases, leading to the convicts forfeiting all recovered items to the Federal Government.
Simultaneously, the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate arrested 56 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud across various locations in Ilorin, Kwara State. The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation that also resulted in the seizure of 18 exotic cars, multiple laptops, high-end smartphones, and charms. The suspects are expected to face charges in court after ongoing investigations are concluded.
