ICPC trains Kano journalists, calls for responsible reportage

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, has called on online journalists in Kano to focus on reporting critical issues that promote economic development and improve the standard of living for Nigerians.

Speaking at a one-day training for online journalists organized by the ICPC in Kano, Dr. Aliyu emphasized the importance of constructive journalism in shaping the nation’s image globally. He urged journalists to shift their focus away from negative aspects like insurgency and concentrate on reporting development initiatives.

Represented by the Assistant Commissioner of ICPC, Hassan Salihu, Dr. Aliyu highlighted the commission’s commitment to partnering with online journalists to ensure objective reporting of ICPC activities. He charged the journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession and prioritize fair and just reporting for the nation’s development.

The ICPC Chairman commended the cordial relationship between the commission and online journalists and expressed hope for its continued growth.

In his opening remarks, Yakubu Salisu, the Chairman of the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ), emphasized the importance of collaboration between the media and anti-corruption agencies. He stressed the role of journalists in holding public officials accountable and ensuring transparency in governance.

The training featured presentations from various resource persons who shared their expertise on topics such as investigative journalism, data journalism, and ethical reporting. Participants from different online newspapers in Kano attended the event.
