HEDA Urges EFCC to Investigate ₦500 Million Missing from NAFDAC

The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the disappearance of ₦500 million from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

This follows a recent revelation by NAFDAC’s Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, who disclosed that she inherited a ₦3.2 billion debt and discovered an additional ₦500 million missing upon taking office.

In a press statement, HEDA’s Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, expressed deep concern over the financial mismanagement at NAFDAC, particularly given Nigeria’s economic challenges. The group emphasized the need for accountability and urged the Federal Government to hold those responsible for the missing funds accountable.

HEDA called for a swift investigation, recovery of the missing money, and prosecution of those involved. The organization also urged the government to strengthen anti-corruption measures to prevent future incidents, warning that corruption poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s development.
