ICPC Targets Former Kaduna Governor’s Aide in N11 Billion Fraud Investigation

The ICPC is investigating Jimi Lawal, a former Special Adviser to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for his involvement in a questionable Light Rail Project worth N11 billion. After Lawal failed to respond to a summons for questioning, the ICPC asked the DSS and NIS to place him on a watchlist, suspecting he might attempt to flee the country. The investigation also uncovered N144 million in his bank account, linked to four private companies, and has led to the questioning of 20 officials and a company’s Managing Director over $350 million in loans intended for educational and infrastructure projects. This investigation is part of a broader probe into the administration of El-Rufai, who has denied allegations of financial misconduct, stating that he was not given a fair hearing by the Kaduna House of Assembly.
