The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI II), Okpravero Ufuoma, for allegedly soliciting financial gratification from a traveler

The NIS who made this know in a statement issued by the service public relation officer, Kenneth Udo, said the officer’s conduct, captured in a video circulating on social media, does not reflect the values and ethics of professionalism upheld by the NIS.

Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, also condemned the alleged misconduct in the strongest terms, saying that it undermined the ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing service standards.

She, however, assured the public that the officer has been indefinitely suspended pending the outcome of disciplinary procedures, in accordance with the law and Public Service Rules.

Nandap stressed that the officer’s act is disgraceful and not a representation of the commitment of the service to hospitality, reception and courtesy.

“The NIS reiterated its commitment to identifying and removing corrupt elements within its ranks, in line with our Zero-Tolerance for Corruption policy.

“We assure the public that the NIS will continue to strive for excellence in service delivery, in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration”, the CGIS stated.
