Police Raid NLC Headquarters Amid Allegations of #EndBadGovernance Protest Sponsorship
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters was raided by police on Wednesday night following allegations that members of the organized labour sponsored the #EndBadGovernance protest.
According to labour leaders who spoke to *Daily Trust*, the raid occurred after everyone in the building had left for the day. Security guards at the NLC headquarters reported that the operatives headed directly to the 10th floor, where the office of NLC President, Joe Ajaero, is located. The masked operatives later searched the second floor, where additional NLC offices are situated.

Benson Upah, the Head of Information at the NLC headquarters, confirmed that a statement would be issued regarding the incident but had not released it at the time of reporting.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the Department of State Services (DSS) were unsuccessful, as calls to DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya went unanswered, and a text message sent to him was not replied to.
The raid follows protests that took place on August 1 in several states and the Federal Capital Territory, where Nigerians demonstrated against the rising cost of living. The protests escalated when some participants began calling for regime change, and Russian flags were reportedly flown in various locations.
In response, President Bola Tinubu summoned security chiefs to Aso Rock, directing them to crack down on those threatening democracy in Nigeria. This led to a series of raids by the DSS and other security agencies, resulting in numerous arrests.
