Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, 15th Emir of Kano State

Emir Aminu Ado Bayero: A Legacy of Humble Royalty

By Usman Suleiman Sarki, PhD.

The Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero hails from the Fulani Sullubawa clan. He was born on 21st August, 1961. He received his early Islamic education at home, where he learnt the Qur’an, Hadith and Islamic jurisprudence.

Despite having royal lineage, that doesn’t get into his head as he attended a public primary school (Kofar Kudu Primary School) after which he proceeded to Government College, Birnin Kudu for his secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mass communication from Bayero University Kano after which he went to Flying College in Oakland, California.

He observed his one-year mandatory National Youth Service at Nigeria Television Authority in Makurdi, Benue State.

Prior to his appointment as District Head, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero worked as a public relations officer at Kabo Air, before becoming a flight engineer.

Aminu Bayero was appointed Dan Majen Kano and district Head of Dala in 1990 by his father, the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero. He was promoted to Dan Buran in October 1992, and promoted to Turakin Kano and to Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida in 2000. He served as District Head of Dala,  before he was transferred to Kano Municipal in 2014 by the then emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II after being promoted to Wamban Kano.

He ascended the throne of Emirship on the 9th March 2020, following the dethronment of Muhammad Sanusi II by former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero was conferred with a national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Muhammadu Buhari. He is also the Chancellor of the University of Calabar.

It is imperative to state that the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero remained the ROYAL SCENT of the Kano Kingdom since his appointment as District head in 1990 to this contemporary time. He is naturally charismatic, eloquent and promising leader that has concerns for his people. Moreover, the love and support he earned from the good people of Kano still remain unshakable and this is attributed to his unique qualities of honesty, integrity, humbleness and compassion.

It is worthy to state that throughout these years of service to humanity, the Emir of Kano Aminu Bayero has not failed the good people of Kano and never suggested or supported any anti-people policy that may temper with the well-being of the people.

Other qualities worthy of emulation and which no doubt earned him more respect and love from the good people of Kano is his true and sincere respect for elders and the entire humanity.
