The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly invited several Ogun State government officials for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation. The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the development, stating that the officials were invited by the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Office on Tuesday.
Oyewale clarified that the officials were questioned and later returned to their state without any detentions. He refrained from providing specific details, only confirming that the investigation pertains to Ogun State government activities.

This inquiry follows a petition by Wale Adedayo, the former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area, who last year accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting approximately ₦10.8 billion intended for the 20 local governments in the state. The state government has denied the allegations, stating that it actually augmented federal allocations to support the local governments.
Adedayo, who was impeached after making the allegations, is currently on trial for raising false accusations and defaming Governor Abiodun.
A top government official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the EFCC’s investigation into the state’s finances but did not provide further details. Adedayo also mentioned that he was aware of the EFCC’s actions and believed it to be connected to his petition.
