Hardship Protest: Kano Civil Society Forum Condemns Violence, Calls for More Restraint
The Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has condemned and described as unfortunate, the destructive actions that ensued following the beginning of the nationwide hunger protest which undermined the peace and security in the State.
President of the Forum, Mohammed Bello disclosed this in a statement he made available to newsmen this morning in Kano State.
Mr. Bello decried how Kano State witnessed a disturbing escalation of violence, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, numerous injuries, and widespread vandalism under the pretext of nationwide hunger protests.
“It is deeply unfortunate and heartbreaking that lives were lost, many people sustained injuries, and a significant amount of government and private infrastructure were vandalized. The invasion and looting of stores and shopping malls by hoodlums is an unacceptable act that further compounds the suffering of our citizens.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic event and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. The KCSF stands in solidarity with all victims and affected businesses, recognizing the profound impact this violence has had on our community,” Mr. Bello said.
However, the President also urged the Kano State Government to synergize with security institutions in restraining further breakdown of law and order while urging the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.

“In light of these events, we urgently call on the Kano State Government to collaborate closely with security agencies to restore and maintain peace and order. Swift and decisive action must be taken to prevent the further spread of this mayhem. The protection of lives and property must be the top priority, and we urge the authorities to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.
In the same vein, Mr. Bello called on the government to address the root cause of these upheavals by initiating social programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of the citizens.
He said: “While addressing the immediate security concerns, it is equally important for the government to implement long-term measures aimed at alleviating the root causes of this unrest. Poverty and unemployment are significant factors that contribute to social instability.
“We urge the state government to prioritize initiatives that will create job opportunities and provide social safety nets for the vulnerable segments of our population. Economic empowerment and poverty alleviation are essential for ensuring lasting peace and security.
Furthermore, he reiterated the commitment of KCSF to synergizing with the government in promoting peace, security and development of Kano State.
“The KCSF is committed to working with the government and all stakeholders in fostering a peaceful and prosperous Kano State. We call on all citizens to remain calm and law-abiding, and to engage in constructive dialogue to address their grievances.” Mr. Bello added.
