National Security Adviser Raises Alarm Over Terrorists’ Use of Specific Drones

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has expressed deep concerns regarding the increasing use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by terrorists and other criminal elements to disrupt Nigeria’s socio-economic activities. During the Counter Man-Portable Air Defence Systems (MANPADS) Workshop in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka highlighted the urgent need for inter-agency collaboration and international cooperation to address these aviation-related threats effectively.

The workshop, jointly organized with the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport Aviation Security, aims to bolster Nigeria’s aviation security capabilities against these emerging challenges. Mr. Jonathan Kendall, representing the UK, emphasized the vulnerability of aircraft during takeoff and landing to shoulder-launched missiles, underlining the critical importance of enhancing MANPADS countermeasures and vulnerability mapping at Nigerian airports.

The initiative underscores a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s aviation security strategy, calling for unified efforts to safeguard against threats that transcend borders, posing risks to national and global security alike.
