7 days after, abducted Kaduna journalists, family regain freedom

Reporters of The Nation newspaper, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe, and that of Blueprint Newspaper, AbdulRaheem Aodu, who were kidnapped alongside their family members, have regained freedom.

The journalists and their family members were kidnapped from their homes in Danhonu community in Millennium city of Chikun local government area of Kaduna, on July 7, 2024.

The bandits later released Abdulraheem’s wife.

Confirming their release, Abdulgafar’s elder brother, Barrister Mas’ud Mobolaji Alabelewe, said they were receiving treatment in Abuja.

He said, “To God be the glory our loved ones have been released. It was a week of terror for the whole family but we thank Allah that they have been released.

“We want to thank everyone that supported us with prayers through our trying times.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kaduna Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Asma’u Yawo Halilu in a statement expressed relief over the release of the journalists.

She said, “To the glory of God Almighty, our colleagues, Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Abduraheem Aodu and their families have been released.

“The Council extends her profound gratitude to the office of the CP, Kaduna State Command, office of the NSA, the DG, DSS, the Inspector General of Police, Kaduna State government, the NUJ President and all well meaning Nigerians that prayed along with us during the trying time.

“We will soon announce when they will join us in Kaduna so that we could visit, rejoice and glorify God with them.”
