The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B,has announced the tragic death of Inspector of Customs Hamza Abdullahi Elenwo, who fell victim to a suspected smuggler’s vehicle while attempting to evade arrest on Friday, July 12, 2024, in Jigawa State.

According to the statement, Inspector Elenwo, was described as a dedicated officer with over a decade year of service, but was fatally injured during a stop and search operation along Daura-Kano Road in Achilafia.

Despite been given emergency medical attention at General Hospital Kazaure and Federal Medical Centre Katsina, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The Customs Area Controller(CAC) of Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Comptroller Ahmad’u Shuaibu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and vows to ensure justice is served. One suspect is currently in police custody, and the unit remains resolute in its fight against smuggling.

The CAC sadly stressed that the incident highlights the dangers faced by customs personnel in their efforts to enforce the law and protect national borders.  He asserted that the service will not be deterred and will continue to work tirelessly to prevent smuggling and related criminal activities.

He prayed that the soul of Inspector Hamza Abdullahi Elenwo’s sacrificed not be in vain. And promised that his dedication and service to the nation will be remembered and honored.
