Arraignment Delayed for Ex-Minister Mamman Due to Health Issues

The arraignment of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, over allegations of money laundering amounting to N33 billion was postponed yesterday at a Federal High Court in Abuja due to his ill-health.

Mamman collapsed outside the courtroom prior to his scheduled plea, prompting a medical response. His lawyer, Femi Ate, SAN, informed Justice James Omotosho that Mamman was treated by court medical personnel after the incident.

Despite his condition, Mamman asserted that he was fit to proceed, attributing his collapse to medication taken without food, which led to a drop in blood pressure. He also noted discrepancies in the charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), specifically regarding a name error.

The EFCC had filed a 12-count charge against Mamman, alleging conspiracy and diversion of funds related to the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects. Although the court considered an adjournment to allow Mamman time to recover, Justice Omotosho scheduled the next hearing for late September due to the court’s busy docket.
